Support for the rehabilitation of priority schools

This mission aims to improve learning conditions in several public primary schools in the urban commune of Boké (130,944 inhabitants according to the RGPH-4 census of 2025) and its peripheral sub-prefectures (Kanfarandé, Kolaboui, Tanéné, Dabiss). The Boké region has 1,160 primary schools and 4,708 classrooms (2021/2022), but many establishments suffer from degraded roofs, dilapidated furniture, insufficient sanitation facilities, and overcrowded classrooms, sometimes with up to 150 students per room and five children per desk-bench according to the Prefectoral Directorate of Education. Identified needs include the rehabilitation of buildings (roofs, ceilings, walls, floors), the construction of additional classrooms, the manufacturing of desk-benches, the construction of latrines and water points, as well as the fencing and securing of sites. Private initiatives have already renovated 12 public schools in the urban commune between 2020 and 2024; this mission complements these efforts by targeting schools that have not yet received intervention. A shared diagnosis with the DPE of Boké and the City Council will allow for prioritizing the most urgent schools before the start of the works.
