General description

This mission aims to strengthen access to healthcare and the quality of health services in Boké, a city of 130,944 inhabitants (RGPH-4, 2025) and the capital of a region with over 1.3 million inhabitants. In 2022, the region had one regional hospital, 4 prefectural hospitals, 44 health centers, and 206 health posts, but only 155 doctors and 128 midwives, or about one doctor for every 8,800 inhabitants. Indicators remain concerning: in 2018, neonatal mortality was 38‰, infant mortality was 64‰, and only 45.6% of births were attended. Progress has been made, such as the medical oxygen plant inaugurated at the regional hospital in October 2025 and the provision of emergency kits and biomedical equipment by Expertise France in July 2026, but needs remain significant. Priorities include strengthening the technical capabilities of the regional hospital and emergency services, equipping peripheral health centers and posts, maternal and neonatal health, vaccination, supply of essential medicines, and training of local health personnel.

Impacts / Objectives

Improve access to healthcare for the inhabitants of Boké, reduce maternal, neonatal, and infant mortality, strengthen the technical capabilities of emergency services, limit evacuations to Conakry, improve vaccination coverage and the management of infectious and chronic diseases, and enhance the skills of local health personnel.
