General description
In Kumba, South-West Region, numerous schools (primary and secondary, urban and rural) face critical challenges including aging and damaged infrastructure (roofs, classrooms), severe overcrowding (60-80 students/class), and a dire lack of essential facilities like desks, clean water, and adequate sanitation. The ongoing crisis and population pressure have exacerbated these issues, leading to poor learning conditions and health risks for students. This project aims to address these urgent needs by rehabilitating existing structures, constructing new classrooms, providing essential equipment, and improving water, sanitation, and digital access for a significant number of students across the affected areas.
Impacts / Objectives
Significantly improve the learning conditions and health of thousands of students in Kumba. The objectives include: 1) Renovating and constructing at least 20 classrooms to reduce overcrowding and provide a conducive learning environment. 2) Providing over 1,000 new desks and benches for students. 3) Installing five modern sanitation blocks and clean water systems to improve hygiene and school retention, particularly among girls.
Contribution details
The diaspora is invited to contribute through: 1) Financial donations for the purchase of building materials, school furniture, and equipment (computers, water systems). 2) Technical expertise: civil engineers, architects, sanitation experts, and IT specialists for project design and monitoring. 3) In-kind donations: school furniture, computer equipment, and books. 4) Project management and coordination, remotely or on-site. 5) Network mobilization for fundraising and awareness-raising.
Mission conditions
The mission is being carried out in close collaboration with local partners and educational authorities. Regular and transparent monitoring of funds and progress will be implemented. Contributors are kept informed of the local and security context. On-site participation is possible but requires prior coordination and adherence to security protocols. Impact reports will be shared periodically.
