General description
The local art museum of Maroua, a pillar of the cultural heritage of the Far North region of Cameroon, is currently in a state of disrepair. The Maroua Urban Community, in partnership with UNESCO, has initiated an ambitious rehabilitation project to restore and modernize it. This mission is a call to the Cameroonian and African diaspora to support this essential effort, to breathe new life into this emblematic place, and to transform it into a dynamic cultural center and a driver of local development.
Impacts / Objectives
1. **Enhancement of Cultural Heritage:** Restore and showcase the museum's artistic and historical collections, reflecting the cultural richness of the region.
2. **Development of a Cultural and Tourist Hub:** Position Maroua as a major cultural destination, attracting visitors and investment, and stimulating the local economy.
3. **Support for Local Artists:** Offer a modern exhibition and creation space for the region's talents, fostering exchange and artistic innovation.
4. **Education and Awareness:** Create a place of learning and discovery for young people and the community, strengthening cultural identity and social cohesion.
Contribution details
The diaspora is invited to contribute actively to this project, vital for Maroua's heritage. We are seeking contributions in several forms:
* **Skills:** Architects specialized in heritage, museographers, art conservators, cultural communication experts, cultural project managers.
* **Donations:** Funding for renovation works, the acquisition of museographic equipment, the digitization of collections, or the development of educational programs.
* **Networks of Influence:** Connections with international cultural institutions, patrons, artists, or media to promote the project and attract partnerships.
Mission conditions
The mission is part of a solid partnership framework with the Maroua Urban Community and UNESCO. A detailed roadmap is being developed. Diaspora contributors will be able to integrate into different phases of the project, from planning to implementation, with regular and transparent monitoring of progress.
