General description
The mission aims to support the cultural revival momentum in Maroua, by backing structuring initiatives of the municipality and local stakeholders. It will focus on the rehabilitation of the local art museum, a historic hub in difficulty (small collections, low attendance), with the goal of turning it into a genuine cultural and tourist center. Another major focus is the creation and development of libraries, particularly a university library for the city's 40,000 students, and the strengthening of private initiatives such as that of the writer Djaïli Amadou Amal. The mission will address the lack of modern infrastructure, the deficit in funding and professional management, and the need for cultural mediation.
Impacts / Objectives
1. Transform the local art museum into a dynamic cultural and tourist hub.
2. Significantly improve access to books and knowledge for Maroua's 40,000 students and population through the creation and development of libraries.
3. Fund and finalize cultural infrastructure (museum, libraries, cultural centers).
4. Build rich and diverse documentary collections (books, archives, digital content).
5. Train qualified staff (librarians, cultural mediators, managers).
6. Develop varied cultural programming (public reading, workshops, events).
7. Establish lasting partnerships with universities, NGOs, and international donors.
8. Digitize cultural content to broaden access to knowledge.
9. Integrate these projects into an overall strategy of cultural tourism and appeal for Maroua.
