Strengthening municipal services and civil society
General description
In Kindia, civil society is a recognized actor in local development. As part of the project "United Communities at the Heart of Local Development in the Kindia Prefecture," led by Coopération Atlantique-Guinée 44 with support from the AFD, producers, youth associations, and communities engage in dialogue within the Intercollectivité de Kindia, where the Coordination des associations de jeunes guinéens de Kindia (CAJEGK) is recognized as a legitimate actor. The local youth council, which met in 2021 with a United Nations mission, called for youth to be organized within a unifying framework, while women's organizations demanded more investment against youth unemployment and for women's empowerment. The NGO IDNTIC, created in 2019, helps communities in Kindia's mining areas form associations: three associations with 64 to 103 members supported, plus over eight young entrepreneurs established. The needs in the commune are concrete: uncollected garbage in neighborhoods like Abattoir, power outages in Sambaya, Gare, or Condetta, degraded schools, unsanitary markets. These organizations remain fragile: irregular funding, governance and management needing professionalization, and coordination with the commune needing strengthening. This mission mobilizes the diaspora to strengthen these actors: finance structuring projects (water, schools, health centers, incubators), provide skills (project management, health, education, digital, water and sanitation), create bridges with NGOs, universities, and donors, and support the professionalization of local organizations, in conjunction with the commune and the new municipal team.
