General description
In Douala, urban mobility has become a major strategic issue in the face of rapid population growth and chronic congestion.
The transport system remains largely informal and insufficiently structured.
The Douala Urban Mobility Project (PMUD), funded by the World Bank, aims to modernize and organize public transport.
It introduces a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system with dedicated lanes and organized stations.
The project includes the professionalization of transport operators and the modernization of road infrastructure.
It also provides for the reorganization of transport lines and the restructuring of neighborhoods around the corridors.
Awareness-raising actions accompany the transformation to facilitate the population's buy-in.
