General description
The city of Bafoussam, the capital of the West region of Cameroon, faces an educational crisis due to the advanced deterioration of its public and private school infrastructure. In neighborhoods such as Djeleng, Tamdja, Tougang, and Banengo, schools suffer from structural cracks, damaged roofs, a lack of ceilings, overcrowded classrooms (sometimes more than 70 students), a shortage of desk-benches, unsanitary or nonexistent latrines, an absence of drinking water, and defective fences. These precarious conditions endanger the safety and learning of thousands of children. This mission aims for a complete and sustainable rehabilitation of these establishments to provide a dignified and secure study environment.
Impacts / Objectives
This mission aims to significantly improve learning conditions and health safety for at least 5,000 students in 10 targeted primary schools in Bafoussam over the next two years.
The expected results are:
1. **Renovation of 50 classrooms**: Structural repair, installation of watertight roofs and ceilings to protect students from bad weather.
2. **Improvement of school furniture**: Provision of 1,000 desk-benches to reduce overcrowding and ensure comfortable study conditions.
3. **Access to hygiene and drinking water**: Construction or rehabilitation of 20 modern and functional latrine blocks, and installation of drinking-water points in 5 schools.
4. **Securing the establishments**: Installation or repair of fences to protect students and equipment.
These actions will directly contribute to better school attendance, a reduction in diseases linked to a lack of hygiene, and an overall improvement in the quality of the education received.
Contribution details
The mission relies on mobilizing **financial donations** from the diaspora and its partners. These funds will help cover the costs of purchasing construction materials (cement, sheet metal, wood, paint), financing skilled local labor (masons, carpenters), acquiring school furniture (new desk-benches), and providing essential educational equipment (boards, school kits). Each contribution is essential to bring these rehabilitations to fruition and offer a better future to the children of Bafoussam.
Mission conditions
Commitment to total transparency on the use of funds, with regular financial and activity reports (including before/after photos and videos). A local monitoring committee, composed of diaspora representatives, parents of students, and educational authorities, will supervise the progress of the works. Funds will be allocated in phases, according to the needs and the progress of the projects on the ground.
