General description
The city of Garoua, located in the North of Cameroon, holds considerable economic potential in agro-industry (cotton, maize, millet, peanuts), cross-border trade (proximity to Nigeria/Chad, Kribi-Garoua corridor), logistics (river port on the Bénoué), real estate, and tourism. However, it faces major challenges: high unemployment, a largely informal economy, insufficient infrastructure, and a low level of industrial processing. This mission aims to mobilize the diaspora to make structuring and targeted investments, in order to transform these opportunities into sustainable economic growth and massive job creation, particularly for the region's young people. The aim is to develop local value chains, modernize key sectors, and strengthen productive capacities.
Impacts / Objectives
The mission aims to generate concrete and measurable impacts:
- Create at least 500 direct and indirect jobs for young people and women over 3 years in the priority sectors.
- Increase the local processing capacity of agricultural products by 30% within 5 years, thus reducing the export of raw materials.
- Structure and modernize at least 5 commercial or agro-industrial value chains, fostering the integration of the informal economy.
- Attract complementary investments for the improvement of key infrastructure, notably the Garoua river port and access roads.
- Develop local entrepreneurship through the financing and support of about ten innovative projects each year.
Contribution details
We are seeking various contributions from the diaspora:
- **Financial investment:** Capital contributions for direct investment projects (business creation or expansion) or via investment funds dedicated to Garoua.
- **Technical and managerial expertise:** Sharing of skills in agro-industry, logistics, project management, finance, marketing, and business development, to support local businesses and project leaders.
- **Networking and partnerships:** Provision of contacts and networks to facilitate access to markets, technologies, financing, and international partners.
- **Mentoring and training:** Support for young entrepreneurs and local SMEs to strengthen their capacities and enable them to grow.
Mission conditions
The mission focuses geographically on Garoua and its region, in the North of Cameroon. Investments must be directed toward sectors with high potential for employment and added value: agro-industry (processing, storage), logistics and transport (multimodal, cross-border), real estate (urban development), structuring of local trade, and ecotourism. Selected projects must demonstrate a solid business plan, a positive social and environmental impact, and a significant contribution to job creation for young people. Close collaboration with local stakeholders (authorities, businesses, associations) is essential. Transparency and good governance of the projects are paramount criteria.
