General description
A structuring initiative aimed at providing Yaoundé with a multifunctional Olympic aquatic center in Efoulan (Yaoundé III). The project will transform a difficult natural site into a modern facility with competition pools, training areas, leisure spaces, and sports equipment, thereby generating an urban hub of appeal, jobs, and socio-economic activities.
Impacts / Objectives
1. Development of Cameroonian aquatic sports: popularizing swimming, training a sporting elite, hosting regional/African competitions.
2. Urban and social development: enhancing a difficult site, creating an educational and inclusive leisure space, urban animation.
3. Economic development: creating a revenue- and job-generating hub, promoting sports tourism.
Contribution details
The diaspora is called upon for:
- Financial investment in the infrastructure.
- Technical expertise (sports engineering, architecture, facility management).
- International partnerships (federations, donors).
- Development of related services (sports tourism, training, events).
- Support for training young athletes and school swimming programs.
Mission conditions
The project is in the structuring and public-private partnership preparation phase. The Yaoundé Urban Community is leading the project, providing the site and facilitating procedures.
