Contribution to the city's environmental program, particularly in waste transformation

In Douala, environmental management and urban cleanliness are major challenges in the face of population growth and rapid urbanization. The city produces several thousand tonnes of waste every day, leading to significant health and environmental challenges. A vast waste-to-energy transformation program is being structured, involving public and private investments estimated at over 856 billion FCFA. This program aims to build treatment units capable of producing electricity, biogas, and fertilizers from urban waste. The current collection system remains under pressure, with still-limited transfer and treatment infrastructure. Transfer centers and collection-monitoring systems are being strengthened to improve overall efficiency. The transition to a circular economy is becoming a strategic priority to reduce urban unsanitary conditions.
