General description
In Douala, public health faces major challenges linked to rapid urbanization and the precariousness of certain neighborhoods.
Waterborne diseases remain frequent, particularly cholera and typhoid, linked to difficulties in accessing drinking water and sanitation.
Malaria remains endemic and constitutes a major cause of medical consultation.
Recurrent flooding worsens health risks and the spread of environmental diseases.
Public hospitals such as Laquintinie Hospital are heavily saturated, with emergency and maternity services under pressure.
Local health infrastructure is insufficient in the outlying neighborhoods.
Specialized technical facilities remain limited, leading to numerous medical evacuations.
Chronic diseases are on the rise and require suitable care facilities.
