General description
Garoua's PAAEDC is a vital municipal strategy aimed at improving access to sustainable energy and strengthening the city's climate resilience. After a phase of planning and identifying priority projects (decentralized solar, public lighting, sustainable mobility), its concrete implementation is hampered by a lack of funding and technical partners. This mission aims to accelerate the deployment of solar infrastructure, access to electricity in outlying neighborhoods, and the development of affordable energy solutions, in order to make Garoua a pilot city for energy transition in Cameroon.
Impacts / Objectives
The mission aims to transform Garoua into a model of a sustainable and resilient city. The key expected impacts include: 1. A significant increase in access to electricity for households and outlying neighborhoods through decentralized solar solutions. 2. A reduction in dependence on fossil fuels and an improvement in air quality. 3. Strengthening the resilience of populations to the effects of climate change (floods, intense heat). 4. The development of local skills through the training of young technicians. 5. The mobilization of funding and investment for a rapid and equitable energy transition.
Contribution details
The diaspora is invited to contribute in a multidimensional way: 1. **Investment and Financing:** Participate in funding solar projects (panels for schools/hospitals, public lighting, mini-grids) and facilitate access to international green financing. 2. **Technical Expertise:** Provide experts in renewable energy, sustainable urban planning, climate engineering, and project management to structure bankable initiatives and optimize their deployment. 3. **Skills Transfer:** Contribute to the training and mentoring of young local technicians to ensure the maintenance of infrastructure and the development of on-site expertise.
Mission conditions
Contributors will need to demonstrate strong commitment and an ability to work in collaboration with local stakeholders (Garoua Urban Community, technical partners). A good command of French is required. The mission may involve on-site travel for technical and training aspects, or be managed remotely for project structuring and fundraising.
