In Douala, international promotion is based on an active strategy of decentralized cooperation and city diplomacy. The city is a member of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF), a global network of local authorities. This network provides access to funding, exchanges of expertise, and structuring projects in governance and urban planning. At the same time, Douala is developing bilateral partnerships with several major international cities. The twinning with Marseille has enabled exchanges on port management and urban governance. Cooperation with Bordeaux has strengthened capacities in urban planning and the training of municipal executives. Relations with Paris have supported urban planning and institutional modernization.
