General description
The city of Bamenda, in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, faces critical public health needs exacerbated by rapid urban growth, insecurity, and population displacement. Major challenges include a high prevalence of malaria, insufficient access to safe drinking water and sanitation, shortages of healthcare workers and essential medical supplies, and limited maternal and child health services. There are also growing concerns about non-communicable diseases and mental health, all within the context of fragile epidemiological surveillance systems. This mission aims to strengthen integrated health programs in Bamenda, focusing on health system reinforcement, disease prevention, and infrastructure rehabilitation.
Impacts / Objectives
Improve malaria control through increased distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets. Increase access to safe drinking water and improve urban sanitation infrastructure. Strengthen health facilities by providing essential medicines and equipment, and recruiting qualified personnel. Improve maternal and child health services, including access to emergency obstetric care and comprehensive childhood immunization coverage. Support routine screening and monitoring of non-communicable diseases.
